CHIRLA was founded in 1986 to advance the human and civil rights of immigrants and refugees. CHIRLA became a place for organizations and people who support human rights to work together for policies that advance justice and full inclusion for all immigrants.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program.
  • Excellent research and policy development skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Broad strategic vision that encompasses public policy with an immigration lens.
  • Some experience in a non-profit organization or policy firm.
  • Preferred:
    • Strong knowledge of and experience with regional, state, and federal policy advocacy immigration related stakeholders.
    • Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred, with excellent oral communication, public speaking,
      and writing skills.

Additional Information

The Federal Policy Fellow will play a supporting role in an executive team who is charged with planning and executing both the long-term and short-term direction of the organization’s immigration federal policy agenda. The Policy Fellow will collaborate and assist in expanding the work being done across the country. The Policy Fellow will assist assignments given by the Director of Policy, the Deputy Director of Congressional Affairs, and the Deputy Director of Campaigns. In addition, the Federal Policy Fellow will have the opportunity to join national coalition calls, meetings with Members of the House and Senate in-district, and gain skills needed for a career in policy. The ideal candidate will work successfully with CHIRLA’s California and Washington, D.C. based staff to advance CHIRLA’s immigration policy and advocacy agenda.
